Urinary Tract Infections & Prostate Problems

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are far less common in men than women. The incidence is particularly low in younger men. The major factors that increase risk of developing a UTI for men are:

  • If you suffer from diabetes (where sugar in the urine helps bacteria to thrive)
  • If you have to use a urinary catheter (bacteria can either travel into the system during insertion or may develop when the catheter is left in for a time. Sometimes, it is not possible to fully drain the bladder and this can lead to bacterial build up)
  • If you suffer from kidney or bladder stones, these can irritate the bladder wall and cause blockages to emptying the bladder fully
  • If you have an enlarged prostate gland this can also prevent the bladder from emptying fully
  • If you have a systemic condition that weakens the immune system such as HIV or you are receiving chemotherapy.

UTI Symptoms / Prostate Problems

male urinary tract infections

You may experience the following symptoms if you have a UTI:

  • Pain when urinating
  • Very little urine released despite constant urge to urinate
  • Foul-smelling, cloudy urine
  • Blood may be visible in your urine
  • Pain in your back or abdomen
  • Discharge from the penis

It is important to treat UTI swiftly to prevent long-term damage and scarring to the urinary tract system. However, if you are experiencing additional symptoms of fever, pain in the abdomen above the kidney, nausea or shivering, it is necessary to seek urgent medical help since this could indicate much more serious complications such as kidney infection/septicaemia.

Treating UTI & Prostate Problems

  • Drink plenty of fluids to flush bacteria and infection out of your system
  • You can test your urine at home with Urine Test Strips (see article) or send a sample off through your GP for culture and sensitivity testing. Antibiotics, though sometimes necessary, are widely used and overprescribed particularly full-spectrum antibiotics. In order to prevent antibiotic resistance, it is vital, if you are going to take an antibiotic to know the specific one that your infection is likely to respond to.
  • Most UTI infections (in men and women) are caused by E-Coli. Waterfall D-Mannose is an all-natural product that treats this without the need for harmful antibiotics. D-Mannose attaches to E-Coli and flushes it out of your system relieving symptoms quickly.

Preventing UTI & Prostate Problems

  • Take showers rather than baths if you are prone to developing bladder infections
  • Avoid bath oils or perfumed products on genital area
  • Urinate and cleanse genitals before and after sex
  • Use condoms when having sex
  • Always drink plenty of fluids (avoid coffee or alcohol until your infection has cleared)
  • Catheters should only be used when necessary, inserted using aseptic technique and you should ensure draining is unobstructed.
  • Clean under the foreskin when in the shower if you are not circumcised

Waterfall D-Mannose can also be used in a smaller dose as a daily preventative that also improves your overall bladder health.
