Bioactive DMannose

Bioactive DMannose - What does Bioactive mean?

What does Bioactive mean?

Bioactive is another way of saying something is biologically available and active (causing changes) in the body.

A bioactive food supplement is one that has an activity beyond nutritional properties to have an effect on or trigger a response. Bioactive food supplements are usually associated with only positive effects on the organism and typically affect health in a beneficial way. Nutritionally, bioactive compounds are not essential since the body can function properly without them but they, nevertheless, can have a beneficial impact on health.

A working definition states that:

Bioactive food components are constituents in foods or dietary supplements, other than those needed to meet basic human nutritional needs, which are responsible for changes in health status.

A few examples of well-known bioactive compounds and health benefits:

Phytoestrogens are now thought to offer some protection against strokes and cancer and are present in many foods such as flaxseed, wheat, berries, oats, barley, lentils, alfalfa, mung beans, apples, carrots, pomegranates, wheat germ and rice bran.
Phenolics in olives and olive oil are generally accepted to be an antioxidant.
red wine
Resveratrol, found in nuts, red wine and red grapes, for example, has antioxidant, antithrombotic, and anti-inflammatory properties; it is thought to inhibit carcinogenesis and support weight loss.
Lycopene - a carotenoid in tomatoes is thought to protect against prostate and other cancers.
garlic cloves
Organosulfur is found in garlic and onions. Sulfur is crucial for detoxification and chelation of heavy metals and radioactive particles.

There are however many bioactive compounds whose beneficial effects are now being discovered. Consuming food rich in bioactive compounds is generally accepted as beneficial for all-round health: a diet that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables (think a rainbow of colours), garlic and onions, whole grains, legumes, oils, and nuts is likely to confer benefits for health long term.

Sweet Cures produces certified contaminant-free products (this business arose in reaction to my problems with toxic side effects ) and, as well as excluding unwanted excipients, and our traditional production methods are designed to enhance bioavailability of bioactive DMannose.
